Liberal Party

Mr. Stern stressed the growing gap between the popular conception of what it means to be "liberal" and the actual values, ideals and stances of liberals; he points out that these imaginary tenets of liberalism are "at variance with the common sense of most American people." Unless liberals (and Liberals) take steps to free themselves from this inaccurate portrait, Mr. Stern contends, liberalism will continue to decline.
Mr. Stern's remarks were peppered with innumerable quips and anecdotes about the history of the Liberal Party and New York City, all delivered with his usual wit and verse.
Among the attendees were New York City Councilmembers Charles Millard (R-L, East Side), Joan Griffin McCabe (D, Sunset Park), and Lawrence Warden (D, Northern Bronx).
The Liberal Party plans to present future Forums on a quarterly basis. Upcoming Forums include welfare reform, led by Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, and educational reform. Attention Students!A group of student Liberals are in the process of forming a Youth Action Group. A mailing will be sent out in late May to over one hundred student Liberals, but these students represent only a small fraction of our enrollment on college campuses throughout the state. If you are a student and wish to receive more information, be put on our student mailing list, or would like to get involved, please call State Headquarters at (212) 213-1400. We look forward to hearing from you.
The Liberal Agenda is published bi-monthly by the Liberal Party of New York State. If you have any comments or suggestions regarding this or future issues of The Liberal Agenda, please feel free to send your inquiries, attention Brian Ibbotson, to State Headquarters at the address listed on the front of this issue.
